What we keep, what we never share, and the one thing we do share.

What we hold

Your email and name, so you can sign in and other owners of your boat know who you are. Your boats and their equipment. Documents you upload — surveys, manuals, receipts, photos. Your service history: what you did, when, at what hours, and what it cost if you record it. Notes you write. We also keep an audit log of changes to a boat's record, because knowing who changed what and when is the point of a provenance product.

The shared library — read this part

hullfolio gets better at a given engine as owners of that engine use it. That only works because some of what you record is shared. Rather than describe it as “anonymised” and leave you to guess, here is the line, field by field.

Shared to the libraryNever leaves your record
  • Equipment make and model
  • Item name (“raw water impeller”)
  • Part number
  • Part manufacturer
  • Service interval (hours, months)
  • Specification (“15W-40, 6.5 qt”)
  • That someone confirmed or dismissed it
  • Your name and email
  • Your boat, its name and HIN
  • Your documents and photos
  • Your service dates and engine hours
  • What you paid, and who did the work
  • Your notes
  • Your boat's areas and locations

The shared side carries no link back to you or your boat. It is a fact about a model of engine, not a record of your engine. Nobody can look at the library and learn that a particular boat exists, who owns it, or what has been done to it.

The practical test: if you would be comfortable saying it out loud on a dock to a stranger with the same engine, it's shared. If it identifies you, your boat, or your movements, it isn't. Notes are the field people fill with the second kind, which is why notes stay put even when you edit a suggestion before accepting it.

Who else touches it

We run on other people's infrastructure: Supabase (database and sign-in), Vercel (hosting), Cloudflare (network and the marketing site), Google Workspace (our email), and Anthropic's API for equipment lookups. Looking up an engine sends the make and model — never your boat, your documents or you. We don't sell your data and we don't run advertising on it.

Leaving

Delete a boat and its record, documents and history go with it. Ask us to close your account and we will remove it. One honest limit: maintenance facts already contributed to the shared library stay, because they carry nothing that identifies you and other owners are relying on them — the same way a tip you gave on a dock doesn't come back when you sell the boat. If that isn't acceptable to you, don't record parts here.
